GOOD NEWS - Based on statistical information of incidents of crime which is obtained from residents, the SAPF and Security Companies, it was apparent that certain areas where crime is the most prevalent needed even more pro-active and response vehicles deployed to those areas.

Helderberg Crime Watch will be deploying a new dedicated 'Hot Spot' patrol vehicle from August 1st 2010 as from 06:00. This vehicle will only patrol Hot Spot areas and react to any crime in progress.

There is a set of parents in our community who, on discovering their daughter's addiction to crystal meth, realized that some form of intervention was required and the family set out on a mission to find the best possible solutions. They have kindly offered to pass on their experiences and insights to other parents and individuals who may be going through similar circumstances. Their experience is communicated in the form of a ‘reality feature’ covering the journey the family has followed, from the time that they identified the problem to the present.

We are very pleased to be able to pass on this valuable information to you in the form of feature articles.

Please feel free to pass on the information to anyone you know and who could benefit from these experiences and insights.

Back row: Gavin Smith (Financial Director of HCW), John Gibson (Director of HCW), Jenny Findlay (Chairperson of HCW), Martin ten Brink (Community Security Manager for ADT Security Western Cape, John Middleton (Director of HCW).
In front: ADT Armed Response Officer Vernon Manuel, Sean Pigden (ADT Reaction Force Manager Helderberg), ADT Armed Response Officer Armstrong Mhlaba.

Martin ten Brink, Community Security Manager for ADT Security Western Cape said: “Working together with Helderberg Crime Watch, the dedicated patrol vehicles which are manned by ADT armed response officers, gives the HCW greater visibility in the area, which in turn gives them a proactive edge in monitoring and reducing crime in the area. ADT’s current fleet upgrade to the Yaris has presented a wonderful opportunity to reassess and improve the HCW branding”

Findlay said: “Our ethos is to provide proactive patrolling and stop crime before it happens and these vehicles offer an added layer of security in the area. By forming this alliance with ADT Security, HCW benefits from ADT's sophisticated patrol management infrastructure, which includes a world-class control centre and satellite tracking of patrol vehicles.” According to Findlay a dedicated patrol vehicle in a certain area also cuts down on response times to incidents and each patrol officer carries a cellphone. This number is only provided to Helderberg Crime Watch subscribers and they can use it to call for help in an emergency or to report any suspicious activity.

Adrian Good, Managing Director of ADT Security Western Cape, said: “ADT’s success in the Western Cape is largely due to our belief that working with communities is the best way to combat crime. Our partnership with HCW is an excellent example of us supporting residents who get involved in proactive anti-crime initiatives”
