What is Helderberg Crime Watch?
|

Helderberg Community Policing is a registered Section 21 Company (i.e. operating without profit or financial gain) which operates as Helderberg Crime Watch (HCW).
HCW's sole function
is, through monthly public subscription, to serve the community by providing pro-active patrols in participating wards to pre-empt criminal activities, thus making our streets and
neighbourhoods safer.
HCW has contracted ADT to provide patrol vehicles and patrol officers that operate under the Helderberg Crime Watch banner. These HCW patrol vehicles differ from the normal ADT alarm response
vehicles in that ADT vehicles do not carry out pro-active patrolling. By forming this alliance with ADT, HCW benefits from ADT's sophisticated patrol management infrastructure, which includes a world
class control centre and satellite tracking of patrol vehicles.

Why do you need Helderberg Crime Watch if you already have armed response? |
|
A dedicated 24-hour, 7-days-a-week pro-active patrol by fully-trained and experienced officers in a roving patrol vehicle which is constantly on the
lookout for suspicious people and activities. This vehicle normally does not leave its assigned ward except for shift changes.
The patrol officer carries a cellphone, the number of which is provided to Helderberg Crime Watch contributors only. Contributors can call the patrol officer for any emergency or to report any suspicious activity.

An armed response company does not actively patrol any area pre-empting crime, but only responds to a crisis situation that has already arisen - an alarm or panic
button activation. People with only armed response cannot summon any armed response vehicle directly.

What does Helderberg Crime Watch cost? |

What should you do to acquire the service? |
|
The cost per household is currently R85 per month (VAT incl.), payable by monthly debit order. Residents in complexes, flats, old age homes, etc. can pay a reduced rate which should be negotiated with HCW. Contributors can cancel the agreement by giving 2 months written notice.

Membership of any other armed response company should not be terminated in order to join HCW, as Helderberg Crime Watch does not offer an alarm monitoring service.

 Residents are in a state of ignorance regarding the actual level of crime in their respective areas.
With your assistance, and receiving enough support from the Helderberg residents, Helderberg Community Policing will be in a position to make known the information that you as resident are willing to
furnish.
The data received via this website reporting mechanism will be mapped, in order for the Helderberg Crime Watch to focus attention where needed, to improve our crime prevention strategy. This facility
will also enable you to see where the crime hot spots are, and the level of crime in your area.
