VERSTERKING VAN
HUISHOUDELIKE SEKURITEIT

STRENGTHENING
HOME SECURITY

Crime prevention involves anticipation, recognition and appraisal of a crime risk, and the initiation of some action to remove or reduce it. Assess your home’s security weaknesses and take steps to strengthen those weaknesses. Experience has demonstrated three basic security concepts:

1.  The appearance that an occupant is present and keeps the property in good condition, is in itself a deterrent to criminals. When away from the home leave the radio on, and at night put some lights on a time switch.

2.  Physical security equipment is absolutely worthless unless used.

3.  The component most likely to fail in any security system is the human one.

Get to know the neighbours in your
street, and keep an eye on each
other’s property.

MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD BOODSKAP VAN DIE DIREKSIE

Beste Bydraers / Dear Contributors

We are pleased to let you know that HCW has joined the Somerset West Community Police Forum. The CPF comprises a group of people representing the SAPS and diverse community representatives, and meets once a month at the Somerset West Police Station to address and resolve policing matters in the widest interest of all the communities in the Somerset West area. As you may have read or heard, the SAPS recognises the need to work with communities and security organisations such as HCW to fight crime.

Similar to HCW, each of these sector vehicles has a cellphone and residents are encouraged to contact their sector vehicle in times of need. We need to emphasize that these SAPS sector vehicles are not a replacement for the HCW patrol vehicles, but represent an additional service, and each SAPS vehicle has to cover a much wider area than any HCW vehicle.

Housebreaking, and theft of and from motor vehicles, continues to escalate, with the Heldervue/Steynsrust area (Wards 11 & 12) being the worst. With this in mind, we provide some tips on strengthening the security of your home on page 1.

Kind regards
Vriendelike groete
